Andy Yeckel is a designer, developer, and inventor based in Kingston, Washington. He has spent twenty-five years founding things — interaction systems, teams, companies, protocols — usually before the industry had a name for what he was making.

He built and ran the web operation at Go2Marine, built Bahn Brenner Motorsport's ecommerce and web presence, and cofounded Fuel magazine at the Art Institute of Seattle. In 2002 he built Sixspeedmedia, a complete interactive design system with physics-based inertia, elliptical carousel navigation, and data-driven content on his own server. It's still live. The files still have the same metadata from 2003. By 2007 he had independently developed a full set of interaction primitives — parallax depth, particle effects, cursor-driven lighting, multi-layer compositing — all solo work, before any corporate engagement.

In 2007 he wrote a thesis about how meaning changes depending on who encounters it, how communities create emergent structure through simple rules, and why a single message can't survive transfer to a large audience intact. He named the core unit of transferable cultural information what Richard Dawkins named it: a meme.

From 2007 to 2013 he founded and ran the creative and technical team at Content Master, delivering hundreds of projects for enterprise clients including AT&T, T-Mobile, Intel, 3M, and Microsoft. He built SlideView and SilverView, designed the prototype interface for Bing Conversational Understanding that was subsequently handed off to the Cortana team, created the original graphical assets for Azure's launch at PDC 2008, and wrote a 284-page platform specification for Windows Phone. The Silverlight Touch Processor, developed with Umesh Patel, was licensed to Microsoft through CM Group and integrated into WPF 4.0's ManipulationDelta events.

In 2018 he founded Alpha Channel Design, working in physical design, accessibility, and advanced fabrication.

Now he's building MEME, a protocol for portable semantic structure in AI. The intellectual foundation is the 2007 thesis applied to AI: destabilized meaning becomes relational geometry, memes become fields, emergent structure becomes the protocol. Three utility patents are under examination.
